John Holehouse

John Holehouse, Owner, General Contractor

Born in a small town Eden, New York. He comes from a long line of constructors, ships carpenters, engineers, surveyors and design professionals. He has been building in Santa Barbara, California since 1974. He started Holehouse Construction Company in 1983 after many years of working in construction under some very smart and dedicated mentors. The Company was born out of a desire to build big cabinets (houses) rather than Kitchen cabinets and furniture. Homes that worked with the environment and satisfied customers needs for a creative living space. John worked almost exclusively for 4 architects that kept him busy for many years; Jack Warner, Paul Gray, Mel Hemmer and Bob Atree. All have since past away and moved on to the great design that was awaiting them. Hopefully they all have the same address now.

Holehouse has formed a company of tight knit builders, project managers, estimators, superintendents and tradesmen that continue to raise the bar in the industry and have received many “Builder of the Year” awards from the SB Contractors Assoc. as well as twice in the vaunted Design magazine “Architectural Digest”.

When not at work John loves to tend to his garden, bicycle (several 500 mile tours in Oregon and Colorado over the years), play softball, woodworking, Church volunteer and performs community service, including sitting on BOD of the Santa Barbara Contractors Association as President in 2012-13. He has presided over the board of our local water company and was past President and current board member of the Rotary Club of Santa Barbara North. John is an adjunct instructor at Santa Barbara City College teaching finish carpentry classes. He is married for 32 years with two Children and two grandchildren from whom he gets great pleasure and love.
